Knitting at the Beach!

Finally, today I got to knit at the beach! My son, daughter and I went down to visit my mom (my knitting mentor) and dad, who live at the Jersey Shore. It was the nicest weather over Memorial Day that we can remember, so as we sat on the beach today, I worked on my Embossed Leaves Socks from Interweave Knits, which are coming out beautifully. I'm motivated by that STR yarn staring at me in my stash each day!
I am almost done with the first sock--see progress here.
I also brought my Einstein Coat, and made a lot of progress on that. It's nice to work the simple garter stitch on one project, with heavy, scratchy Lopi, and then switch to the socks, on #1 needles with a smooth, lightweight wool.

Socks that Rock!

I got my first skein of Socks that Rock yarn today, the new Fairgrounds colorway that was just released to members of the Socks that Rock Club. I LOVE the yarn and I can tell that it's going to be awesome to knit with, but I hope I can keep up with a skein every other month--particularly since I'm still on sock #1 of the pair I'm currently making! But this looks like a fun club and I'm happy to be a member of it.
I added the STR Knitalong to my list as well....

Two Finished Objects, Starting New Ones

First, I've added the button for the Knitting World Cup on my blog (see right margin). I think this is an awesome idea and gives me more time to complete a project than during the Olympics. My son is a soccer player and I know we will be watching many of the World Cup Matches; also, my kids leave for summer camp at the end of June so I'll have time to knit more then as well.
Today I finished the "Wavy" scarf from Knitty, which I have been working on for about 4 months! Since I work on 3-4 projects at once, this one has fallen by the wayside as I've gotten more interested in socks, afghans, or other projects at hand. Pictures should be up shortly. I used Cascade 220 as called for in the pattern, in a pretty wine color.
I've also finished the adorable baby booties to accompany my yellow baby sweater.
Now on to a cute little shrug made out of my leftover Tess Ribbon, plus some other interesting yarns mixed in.

Unravelled

I had mentioned that I was traveling to Las Vegas on business and was planning to visit GailKnits there. I was all set to head over to the shop by taxi, when the taxi dispatcher at my hotel told me that it was at least $30-35 each way by cab to get there! Not to mention what I would likely spend at the store...I reluctantly decided not to go.
On my way home on the plane, I worked on my beautiful Embossed Leaves Socks, from the Winter 2005 Interweave Knits. However, the yarn I am using, (Claudia Hand Painted Yarns Fingering Weight, in the Walk in the Woods Color Way), which I had wound on my winder, started to get all tangly and unwound. So, after getting about an hour of sleep on my redeye flight home, I spent about 3 hours unravelling last night!
Needless to say, today I felt like treating myself right. So, first, when I got an email that the Socks that Rock Rockin'Sock Club was accepting new members, I signed up immediately! I've not yet used STR, but after reading how they sold out 800 skeins in a few hours at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, I felt like I better jump at this opportunity. I'll let you know how it goes!
Then, I went to one of my local yarn shops, Knit-a-Bit, and showed them the shrug I wanted to make with my Tess Yarns ribbon. They showed my another beautiful variegated ribbon to mix with mine and proposed a different shrug pattern. I may not have enough yarn (seems to be the story of my life lately), but I can always add a third yarn to make this shrug really interesting. Hope to have some accompanying photos up soon. While at the yarn shop, I did get the last skein of my yellow variegated baby yarn so I can finish the hood of my baby sweater.

Running Out...

Last night my husband and I drove into NYC to see a play. With the longer days this time of year, that gave me a nice block of knitting time in the car. I am almost done with the yellow Zarrella Baby Sweater, then I need to do the hood. Last night I realized that I might run out of yarn....
I searched a few Websites when we got home and I may just try to order one more skein for the hood--even if the dye lot is off a bit, it shouldn't matter in this case.
While I'm ordering, I might by some Crystal Palace Blippity to make the Blippity-Deco Ribbon Shrug that I saw on Crystal Palace's Website. It might just be the perfect use for the rest of the multicolored ribbon I have left over from my tank. There is also a Blippity Tank I can make too...just when I was winnowing down my stash.
Tuesday I go to Las Vegas for a one-day business trip. I may try to sneak off to a yarn shop, as I have mentioned, finding local yarn shops wherever I go is one of my new goals.
I have been reading all about the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival and wishing I was there. My sister lives in Maryland and I'd love to try to convince her to go with me next year. A goal to work on.
